For 230 years, November 10 has marked the birthday of The United States Marine Corps. The 230th Birthday of the USMC is worth noting with appreciation
And it is a good segue into the story of the first actual Festivus celebration I ever heard of, which was held among a Marine Expeditionary Unit sailing to Kenya after the bombing of the US Embassy in 1998, a mere year after the original airing of the Seinfeld episode, "The Strike" which spawned the holiday.
While I'm sure they would've enjoyed having
THE FESTIVUS POLE from
FRANK'S FESTIVUS, they apparently made do with the other elements of the Holiday: The Airing of Grievances and The Feats of Strength.
Just take amoment to try and conjure up the image of a bunch of Marines Airing Their Grievances and challenging one another to Feats of Strength ... actually that sounds like most gatherings of the Marines that I know, God Bless 'em.
In any case it was the first story of a real-world Festivus Spirit that I ever encountered.
That early morale building Festivus Miracle kind of reminds me of the Royal Dragoon Guards music-video, Is This The Way To Armadillo. If you haven't heard of it or seen it, check out
